Falcons Down Bears

Behind the 11 kills and 3 aces from Victoria Boyko, 8 kills, 3 aces and 7 blocks from Sean Taylor and 8 kills from Lexi Lockhart, the Kentlake Falcons downed the Tahoma Bears in five sets. Marisa Lytle hit .385 (6 kills and 1 error on 13 attempts) while Taylor DiLenardo hit .444 (5 kills and 1 error on 9 attempts) to lead the Falcons in that category. Erin Ryan had 17 digs while Ginger Nason had 20 assists to lead the team.

There is no practice for Varsity on Friday.

Tahoma Tonight

Kentlake travels to Tahoma for a "must win" match against the Bears. Tahoma is 1-1 in League and 2-5 overall with a 5 set loss to Kentridge and a sweep of Mount Rainier. Tahoma is led by coaches daughter MB Kylie Eager. Tahoma is always a tough place to play so come out and support our Falcons in a critical match for Districts.

Kentlake Defeats Lincoln

Kentlake easily defeated the Lincoln Abes Wednesday night, 25-12, 25-14, 25-7 behind the 10 kills (10 of 16 for .625 hitting percentage) from Sean Taylor and 8 kills from Lexi Lockhart. Ginger Nason had 15 assists and Jacy Wilson had 8.

Kent Classic

Despite a 2-2-1 record and finishing tied for 22nd, there were a lot of positives out of the Kent Classic for Kentlake. Obviously leading the #2 team in the state (Mead) late in both games (before ultimately falling 18-25, 21-25) was promising, but could have been better. All day long the entire team played well.

Some individual highlights include Victoria Boyko with 10 kills against Mead (and 31 overall), Lexi Lockhart with 6 kills against Garfield (and 14 overall, outstanding for a right side), Marisa Lytle with 9 kills and 9 blocks, including 5 blocks against Monroe, Gaby Drllevich with 4 aces against Lakeside and 7 kills against North Kitsap (and second on the team with 15 overall), Lexi Lockhart and Sean Taylor each with 8 blocks, Ginger Nason with 45 assists and Taylor DiLeonado with 4 blocks against Lakeside.

Going into the Kent Classic on Saturday, Sean Taylor has a .457 hitting percentage for the year (anything over .300 is usually considered excellent) with 26 kills, 12 blocks and 51 service attempts, Victoria Boyko has 28 kills, 7 aces, 99 service receptions and 36 digs, Erin Ryan has 89 service receptions and 45 digs, Lexi Lockhart has 8 blocks and Ginger Nason has 49 assists.

Concession Buyer Needed

We need someone to step up and take on the responsibility to purchase the items for us to sell at concessions and keep on top of the inventory and replenish as needed. You will be reimbursed promptly for the cost of items you purchase. Please email us at "kentlakevb at comcast dot net" if you can help.

If no one volunteers for this we will not have concessions at matches this year. We have a very good idea of what we normally sell so there is no guesswork involved.

Volunteers Needed On Tuesday

We still need several adult volunteers for the matches on Tuesday. Currently the following jobs are available:

  • C Scorebook
  • C Lines (1 of 2)
  • C Libero Tracker
  • C Scoreboard
  • JV/C Concessions (1 of 2)
  • Varsity Concessions (1 of 2)
  • Varsity Lines (1 of 2)
You can signup online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090A4FAAA62BAA8-spanaway2. Remember, if you work during the match you get in free (Hey, "six bucks is six bucks") but more importantly you help our daughter's and make sure they don't have to fill in for the adults.

We prefer to have "C" parents do the "C" games, Varsity parents do the "JV" games and JV/C parents do the Varsity games. That way the parents can see their girls play. Please help out if you possibly can.

Some quick notes about the various jobs:
  • Scorebook - keeps the score sheet, including who gets what points, substitutions, etc. Not super hard, but sort of imposing at first. Don't worry though, "C" Scorebook is fairly easy and there are several people around that can help show you the ropes.
  • Lines - signals where the ball lands in or out, touches and line faults on serving. A fairly easy job at the "C" level, slightly tougher at JV and probably the most difficult job at Varsity (the speed of the game increases greatly). However, there are some simple "tricks" that make it easier that we can easily show you.
  • Libero Tracker - keeps track of when the libero goes in and out and helps the person doing scorebook. Often one or both teams won't even have a libero at the "C" team level. By far the easiest job available.
  • Scoreboard - if you can count by "1s" you can do the scoreboard. Both gyms use electronic scoreboards so there is no "flipping" involved, just pushing buttons. Also start/stop the timer for time outs and between games. Very easy.
  • Concessions - serve food and collect money. Concession menu is not very involved. Can watch the JV/Varsity matches. However, if you can't stand the smell of hot dogs (like me) this is NOT the job for you.
